From May 26 to 27, 2022, the Tenth Parallel Session of the 9th International Conference on Energy, Resources, Environment and Sustainable Development (ERESD 2022) was successfully held. This parallel session was co-hosted by the School of Mechanics & Civil Engineering and the State Key Laboratory of Deep Geomechanics and Underground Engineering. The theme was "Development and Utilization of Underground Space Resources." The session chairs were Professor Ranjith, Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering; Dr. Wu Wei, Assistant Professor at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; Professor Zhou Xiaoping, Vice Dean of the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture at Wuhan University; Professor Li Xiaozhao, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Deep Geomechanics and Underground Engineering; and Professor Yang Shengqi, Vice Dean of the School of Mechanics and Civil Engineering. More than 40 participants from China, Russia, Singapore, Germany, Australia, Poland, Indonesia  and other countries focused on the theme of energy and resources, discussing issues related to the development and utilization of underground space resources. The session adopted a hybrid online and offline format with all presentations live-streamed via the conference's official website, the total number of attendees exceeded 150 utilizing Zoom meeting rooms and on-site participation.

On the afternoon of May 26, the parallel session commenced with an opening ceremony presided over by Professor Yang Shengqi, Vice Dean of the School of Mechanics and Civil Engineering. Professor Yingxin Zhou, Fellow of the Academy of Engineering, Singapore, delivered an opening speech. He pointed out that energy and resources are central to human well-being, and there is a growing recognition that the deep Earth and new methods for efficient and economical resource extraction play a crucial role in future sustainable development. He expressed his hope that scholars would use this conference as an opportunity for open dialogue, exchange of opinions, and exploration of new research directions in the development and utilization of underground space resources. Professor Ma Zhanguo, Dean of the School of Mechanics and Civil Engineering, introduced the college from aspects such as its history, disciplines and programs, research platforms, faculty team, and exchanges and cooperation. Professor Wang Jianguo introduced the journal "Deep Underground Science and Engineering", initiated by the State Key Laboratory of Deep Geomechanics and Underground Engineering.

The parallel session lasted from the afternoon of May 26 until the full day of May 27, spanning three units. Experts and scholars exchanged views and discussed the theme of development and utilization of underground space resources. The session included 4 invited keynote reports, 9 invited reports, and 24 oral presentations. The 4 invited keynote reports were: "Achieving Sustainability and Low Carbon: A Singapore Perspective" (Professor Chun Fai Leung, Fellow of the Academy of Engineering, Singapore, National University of Singapore); "Reservoir Condition Pore-scale Imaging of Multiphase Flow in Porous Rocks" (Dr. Zhang Guanglei, Imperial College London, UK); "A Field-Enhanced Finite Element Method for Crack Propagation and Coalescence" (Professor Zhou Xiaoping, Wuhan University); and "Deep Rock Excavation Induced Earthquakes: Impacts and Challenges" (Professor Wu Wei, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore). The 9 invited reports were: "A New Simulation Method for Water-Induced Floor Heave in Underground Engineering" (Professor Malkowski, AGH University of Science and Technology, Poland); "A Deep Learning-Based Real-Time Picker for Microseismic Wave Arrival" (Researcher Chen Bingrui, Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences); "Modern Development Trends in Durability Theory of Geotechnical Materials and Reverse Thinking in Nonlinear Soil Mechanics" (Chanyshev Anvar Ismagilovich, Saint Petersburg Mining University, Russia); "Research on 4D Efficient Construction and Reuse of Deep Coal Mine Underground Space" (Professor Ma Zhanguo, School of Mechanics and Civil Engineering, China University of Mining and Technology); "Uncertainty Analysis of Heat Production in Heterogeneous Enhanced Geothermal Systems" (Professor Wang Jianguo, School of Mechanics and Civil Engineering, China University of Mining and Technology); "Deformation and Failure Behavior of Transversely Isotropic Composite Rocks under Different Confining Pressures" (Professor Yang Shengqi, School of Mechanics and Civil Engineering, China University of Mining and Technology); "Correlation between Fluid Injection and Induced Seismicity in Fault-Controlled Geothermal Reservoirs: Insights from Data-Driven Analysis and Numerical Modeling" (Associate Researcher Cai Wu, State Key Laboratory of Coal Resources and Safe Mining, China University of Mining and Technology); "Key Technologies for Rock Mechanics Experiments under Combined Static and Dynamic Loads at Multiple Strain Rates" (Professor Wang Hanpeng, Shandong University); and "Tectonic Classification and Deep Structure of Cemented Basement and Platform Cover in Northern Eurasia" (Alexandr S. Egorov, Saint Petersburg Mining University, Russia).

The report sessions were jointly chaired by Professor Ranjith, Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (Monash University); Dr. Wu Wei, Assistant Professor at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; Professor Ma Zhanguo, Professor Yang Shengqi, and Professor Wang Jianguo from the School of Mechanics and Civil Engineering, China University of Mining and Technology; Professor Wang Hanpeng from Shandong University; Researcher Cai Wu and Associate Professor Feng Xiaowei from the School of Mines, China University of Mining and Technology; and Researcher Liu Shiqi from the Low Carbon Energy Institute, China University of Mining and Technology. In this parallel session, 4 papers were awarded the Conference Outstanding Paper Award, 6 presentations were awarded the Conference Outstanding Presentation Award, and 1 poster received the Outstanding Poster Award. Liu Bo,Secretary of the CPC Committee of China University of Mining and Technology presented honorary certificates to the award winners' representatives at the conference closing ceremony held on the afternoon of May 27.

After the parallel session reports concluded, Professor Yang Shengqi delivered closing remarks. He stated that scholars from different countries gathered for borderless communication, which played a positive role in broadening research horizons, enhancing extensive exchanges among researchers from different countries and fields, and promoting mutual unity and cooperation. He hoped all participants would maintain contact, making greater contributions and breakthroughs in subsequent research for the efficient use of global energy resources, reduction of carbon emissions, and sustainable development of human society.
