From August 18th to August 25th, all 24 students of the 2022 "Qian Qihu Class" from The School of Mechanics &  Civil Engineering went to Singapore for an overseas practical study activity. The aim was to enhance the professional knowledge level and practical abilities of the college's top innovative talents, as well as further broaden their international horizons. This practical study activity was mainly carried out through intensive lectures and research visits to enterprises and institutions, with a tight schedule and rich and substantial content.

At the beginning of the activity, the teachers and students went to Nanyang Technological University. In the Chinese Heritage Centre, which has a history of nearly 30 years, the students attended the course "Building Information Modeling, Virtual Design and Construction" given by Professor Robert Tiong Lee Kong from the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering of Nanyang Technological University. In the class, Professor Robert elaborated on the importance of BIM technology in the construction industry and its various implementation aspects, mainly including the basic concepts and advantages of BIM, the application of digital twins, and the role of the government in promoting the popularization of BIM. The students actively exchanged their thoughts with the professor, creating a relaxed and pleasant classroom atmosphere.

Subsequently, the teachers and students of the "Qian Qihu Class" came to the National University of Singapore and started a campus research tour led by senior students studying there. The beautiful natural scenery, unique architectural design and strong academic atmosphere of places such as the university library and business school left the students deeply impressed. During the exchange visit, the senior students shared their experiences and feelings about studying and living in Singapore, and provided valuable suggestions in response to the questions raised by the students.

In addition, the teachers and students of the "Qian Qihu Class" also visited institutions such as the Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay, Housing and Development Board (HDB), Resource Sustainability Exhibition Hall, Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) of Singapore for practical learning under the guidance of professionals. At the Resource Sustainability Exhibition Hall, the students learned about Singapore's green development policies and sustainable energy solutions; at the Housing and Development Board, they gained a deeper understanding of the planning, construction and management of Singapore's residential new towns; at the Marina Barrage, they deeply felt the important role of water conservancy projects in ensuring urban safety and promoting the recycling of water resources. Besides learning and practice, the study team also visited and researched the National Museum of Singapore, experienced the influence of foreign culture, and gained a more in-depth understanding of Singapore's history and development.

The college has always adhered to the educational philosophy of "Learning for application, learning for innovation" and attached great importance to the cultivation of top innovative talents in undergraduate education. This Singapore study practice activity is an in-depth exploration and practice of the college towards an international model for cultivating top innovative talents under the goal of "Double First-Class" construction.
