Professor Yin Shiping from the School of Mechanics and Civil Engineering has always been inspiring students with his passion, getting close to them with his attitude, and constantly improving his own abilities to better serve them.

Temper oneself and set a good example

Yin Shiping persists in honing himself and enhancing his scientific research skills. At present, he is undertaking research work on over 20 projects including the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Jiangsu Provincial Key Research and Development Program (Social Development), and has published more than 140 high-level papers in domestic and international journals.

The strict self-requirements have also set a good example for the students. Among the team members, 14 have won the National Scholarship for Postgraduates, 3 have won the title of Outstanding Master's Thesis of Jiangsu Province, and 5 have won the title of Outstanding Dissertation of Academician Lu Zhitao in the discipline of Civil Engineering of Jiangsu Province's Higher Education Institutions. In addition, students in the research group have published over 70 high-level papers as the first author in authoritative domestic and international journals in this field.

Be innovative and teach students in accordance with their aptitudes

In scientific research, I have always encouraged students to be courageous in exploration and to have the courage to start from scratch. Yin Shiping is good at encouraging some novel methods proposed by students and helping them cultivate their innovative ability. A graduate student put forward some new ideas about the research topic to him. After learning about them, Yin Shiping encouraged him to apply for an invention patent. Eventually, the invention patent was authorized.

Scientific research work keeps pace with The Times and requires continuous learning. In order to grasp the academic frontier and the latest industry trends, in addition to reading the latest literature, Yin Shiping also pays attention to relevant conferences at home and abroad.

He often leads students to attend relevant academic conferences, broadening their horizons and cultivating their innovative consciousness and thinking. After returning from the conference, he will also promptly share his experiences and insights from the event as well as the research inspirations he has gained with the students, so as to provide ideas for subsequent research.

Yin Shiping also attaches great importance to cultivating the writing ability of postgraduate students. He guides and accompanies students throughout the entire process of publishing papers. From the revision of the first draft, to responding to the review comments, and then to the publication, he strictly checks every step for his students, imparting all the experience he has accumulated over the years in scientific research to them. All of his students say, "The guidance given by Teacher Yin to us is not only in the revision and publication of papers, but also a kind of thinking and method for doing scientific research, which has benefited us a lot."

The gentle spring rain nourishes life

In his educational and teaching work, Yin Shiping always does his best to help students. He hopes that each student can choose a research topic that suits them better.

Once, an undergraduate student who wanted to pursue a postgraduate degree approached Yin Shiping. This student met the basic requirements for applying for the integrated master's and doctoral program. However, due to insufficient communication with the teacher, he encountered difficulties in choosing a major and getting the teacher to write a recommendation letter. Yin Shiping helped him get in touch with two teachers for recommendations and patiently answered his questions related to his professional direction. At that time, choosing to help this student was in the hope that every ambitious child could have a chance to realize their dreams. This is also what Yin Shiping has been doing for his students all along.

For every student in the research group, Yin Shiping is not only a "teacher of classics", but also a sincere and understanding life mentor. When I encounter problems that I can't solve on my own, I often turn to Teacher Yin for help, and he always gives me guidance. A student from the research group mentioned. In moments of confusion, Yin Shiping patiently guides students, provides meticulous care, and holds regular research group meetings. He extends his concern for students into every aspect of their lives. "I believe that every student is a promising talent. The key lies in how the mentor scientifically cultivates and guides them."
